How to sign up for student loan forgiveness?

On August 24, President Joe Biden declared

that his government would forgive between $10,000 and $20,000 of federal student loan debt for individuals making less than $125,000 annually.

As per StudentAid.gov, approximately 8 million borrowers will be automatically eligible for this relief

because the Department of Education already has access to the required income data.

Similarly, if you filed a tax return a year ago,

those COVID-19 stimulus checks may appear automatically.

The Department of Education will release a "simple application" in the upcoming weeks

if the government doesn't already have your information or you're unsure whether it does.

In the statement, President Biden also stated that the student loan pause will be extended for a "last time" until December 31, 2022.
